TRÓNDUR PATURSSONS COSMIC ROOM

The inspiration to this glass and mirror room from 2002 comes from an experience Tróndur had on one of his adventurous trips on one of the big oceans with his friend, Tim Severin, an explorer and a film-maker, when their primitive boat was about to sink.

The crew was standing in water to their waists, surrounded by, what seemed infinite sky and ocean.

This feeling of finding yourself in an infinite space is what Tróndur seeks for in his glass- and mirror- installations.

Tróndur has made various examples of his "cosmic room", but what they have in common is the cosmic- and nature-worshipping.

This one - situated on the harbour front - is shaped as an igloo, but at night it is lit up and works almost as a blue-coloured lighthouse.

Thanks to the New Carlsberg Foundation, which bought the work in 2003 and financed its restoration in the winter of 2023-24.
