While Gudrun Hasle was living in Nuuk 2019–21, she became aware that, as a Dane, she had inherited a colonial history from which she wanted to distance herself. The flag’s staring eyes look directly at the viewer. Incomers often find the Greenland custom of greeting people by looking straight into their eyes somewhat disconcerting.
